  • Dr. John Maggio DDS

    Dr. John Maggio is assistant professor at the University of Buffalo Dental School, where he teaches in the undergraduate dental clinic. He is course director of the third year Cariology & Direct Restorations lecture courses. He is also course director of the Ethics & Law in Practice Management lecture course. He teaches fast-paced, evidence-based continuing education courses in restorative dentistry and caries management to dentists and their teams. Dr. Maggio is a 1989 graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. He lives with his wife and daughter in Amherst, New York. He has a private general practice in Tonawanda, New York.

Nothing is more frustrating than restoring a patient’s teeth and seeing them repeatedly fracture. This course gets to the root of the problem, to understand why restorations fail, and how to prevent mishaps before they occur.

Topics include occlusal guidance and interferences, missing teeth, the neutral zone, post and core failures, and crown retention. 

This practical course combines current evidence with practical information for practitioners. Many cases (and failures) will be presented, with suggested remedies.

  1. Be familiar with why patients drift into unhealthy positions anterior to centric occlusion.
  2. Realize the disastrous results of missing molars, and know how to communicate that to patients.
  3. Know best practices for longevity with posts, crowns, brides and implants.
